In this enlightening, energetic, entertaining and educational session, global futurist Jack Uldrich will share the content from his forthcoming book (“Business as Unusual: How to Future-Proof Yourself Against Tomorrow’s Transformational Trends, Today”) and outline ten trends transforming the lubricant industry, as well as identify a series of concrete actions independent lubricant business leaders can take today in order to future-proof themselves, their companies and their customers against “the tides of tomorrow.” Among the topics Uldrich will discuss are:

How individuals can become more aware of transformational change in the lubrication industry and then use this awareness to position their company for the future; why embracing humility and ambiguity will provide leaders increased confidence and clarity in shaping their future; and how a series of tangible actions—including taking a “think week,” finding a “reverse mentor” and conducting a “pre-mortem” (among others)—will be crucial to creating a successful future.

Bridging the Gap from GF-5 to GF-6: Preparing for New Industry Standards

The engine oil specification in North America is going through an unprecedented amount of changes both in heavy duty diesel and gasoline engine oils. ILSAC GF-6, the next global gasoline engine oil specification for vehicles from U.S. and Japanese manufacturers, will be comprised of six newly-developed engine tests that will promote enhanced lubricant performance. While the industry awaits the development of the GF-6 specification, there is a need to upgrade products to meet the second-generation dexos 1™ specification developed to protect GM’s new and legacy engine platforms before the expiration of dexos1:2010 licenses on August 31, 2017.
